ESCAMBIA SCHOOL BOARD FIRES DR. TIM SMITH

ESCAMBIA SCHOOL BOARD FIRES DR. TIM SMITH — Steve Taylor

Pensacola, FL (NewsRadio 92-3) — The Escambia County School Board meeting last night saw the board finally approve a contract for Charter Schools USA to take over Warrington Middle School, but then it took a chaotic turn when school board chairman Paul Fetsko surprisingly moved to fire district superintendent Dr. Tim Smith. The move was supported by board members David Williamson and Kevin Adams. Board members cited communication issues and recent troubles in the negotiation with Charter Schools USA. This all comes after the board was given a 48-hour ultimatum to deliver a signed contract with the organization or face action from the state Board of Education at a meeting earlier yesterday morning. Smith fired back, accusing Fetsko and board member Kevin Adams of conspiring to oust him from his position. Eventually, the board voted 3-2 to fire Smith and look for a new superintendent.
