ESCAMBIA COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEETS STATE DEADLINE

ESCAMBIA COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEETS STATE DEADLINE — Steve Taylor

Pensacola, FL (Pensacola News Journal) — Despite constant pressure from the state to firm up plans for Warrington Middle School, the Escambia County School Board has met its looming January deadline, by entering into a partnership with Charter Schools USA. Warrington Middle has been receiving D grades annually since 2011, leading the state to force the district to convert the school into a charter or close the school entirely. In district Superintendent Tim Smith’s latest meeting with the state board, he was given a firm warning to lock down an agreement this month. In a workshop held yesterday afternoon, the board learned that entering into a partnership with Charter Schools USA through the educational review agreement was sufficient. There will need to be a binding contract approved by May 1 for Smith to take before the state.
