DETAILS ON SANTA ROSA PRISON MURDER — David Wayne
Pensacola, FL (Newsradio 92.3) — Some details have been released on the murder of an inmate at the Blackwater Correctional Facility in Milton last July. Channel 3 reported last week that 41-year-old Angel Velez had been charged with second-degree murder. An FDLE report says Velez killed his cellmate because he believed he was a child molester, and reportedly told investigators that there was one less “chomo” to worry about.
The victim was identified as 35-year-old Andrew Thompson who was serving 45 years on possession of child pornography and sexual activity involving an animal charges.
Velez was serving 35 years on armed robbery, aggravated battery, and kidnapping charges — and had previously served time on murder charges in Puerto Rico.
